VARAK's random acts of kindness week will take place March 9-15, 2026 and Quinte Mall is once again proud to support this program.

Each year participation and community involvement continue to grow. VARAK's Kindness Program is offered to 59 area elementary schools and 14 high schools reaching over 26,000 students in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. Elementary schools participate in colouring and poster contests, which are displayed in the mall, and high schools nominate a High School Kindness Citizen. Each school is provided with a “kindness kit” which includes promotional information and materials. Student winners will receive special awards to recognize their accomplishments.

The VARAK Program was created in loving memory of Mark Fyke an 18 year Nicholson student who was a victim of violence and lost his life on March 15, 1996 while vacationing in Daytona Beach, Florida. The purpose of the program is to promote positive energy to counteract the negative effects of senseless violence in our society, through acts of kindness.

VARAK invites you to join in the planned events for the week:

*Monday, March 9th Community Candle Light Vigil

Please take a moment from the comfort of your home to light a candle and observe a minute of silence

at 7:00 p.m. in remembrance of all victims of violence.

*Tuesday, March 10th Kindness Crews

Kindness Crews will be doing kindness drop offs today and throughout the week, to various

individuals, businesses and organizations across the greater Quinte & Prince Edward Communities.

*Wednesday, March 11th will be Blue Ribbon of Hope Day

The entire community is invited to display blue ribbons or to wear blue to symbolize kindness.

*Thursday, March 12th will be Thankful Thursday.

Residents are encouraged to text, message or call someone who has touched their life with kindness

and thank them.

*Friday, March 13th will be Friendly Friday.

Surprise a family member, friend or neighbour with flowers, an email, card or some other act of

kindness to let them know how much they are appreciated.

*Saturday, March 14th the Kindness Citizen of the Year will be awarded.
